Tecnowool Merino

The finest natural fibers for top performance and luxurious comfort

The Tecnowool Merino line from Pontetorto supplies the finest, softest base layer fabrics. The advantages of Merino wool for sportswear are many: It is not scratchy and absorbs moisture without that clammy feeling and insulates the body even when wet. The perfect functional fiber from Mother Nature, processed to the highest Pontetorto standards! Unlike the recycled Tecnowool grades, Tecnowool Merino uses the finest merino wool sourced from New Zealand sheep. Merino fibers are truly one of nature´s wonders: The fibers processed are less than 20 microns (18.5 to 19.5) thick, so fine that there is no scratchiness on the skin, because the physiological scratch boundary starts at 25 microns. In other words, the higher the number, the scratchier it feels on the skin. In addition, Merino fibers can absorb up to 30% of their weight in moisture, without feeling wet. This natural buffer effect prolongs the point at which sportsmen and women start to sweat. There is no need for the sweat to condense on the skin before being transported to the outer layers, but rather the perspiration is absorbed immediately by the fibers. Even if the Merino wool becomes soaked with sweat as the athlete exercises, the skin still feels dry. The insulating effect is a pleasant microclimate on the skin. All these properties make the wool superior to many synthetic fibers, because Merino wool is warm against the skin in cold weather and cool when the weather is too warm!

New Zealand‘s „wool producers“, the Merino sheep, are raised in accordance with all animal protection standards under natural conditions.
